Length: Optional Various MANDING drum and dance classes are available as part of the MANDING JATA Residency Program. Emphasis is placed upon the knowledge of and adherence to tradition. (While personal and contemporary evolution is encouraged, the integrity and understanding of tradition must be maintained.) Literature is available for each rhythm with music notation for the various drums (djembe, dundun, sangban, kenkeni) bells and rattles, place of origin, ethnic group and social tradition. For dance companies, complete choreography is available with traditional costume information, rhythmic score and songs when appropriate. * note: Kora and balafon kumbegnos (musical figures) may be provided and private instruction is also available.
